This is one of James Abbott McNeill Whistler paintings. Called Nocturne in black and gold, the rag shop.

its very similar to the nocturne in black and gold, the falling rocket, at first glance you really have no clear idea as to what you are looking at. it makes you have to look really closely at the picture to see the image. the way he paints is very interesting to me because he shows just enough so the viewer has to think about if what they think they are looking at is really what they are looking at. in this painting the "Rag Shop" i can see that its some sort of store with stuff in the window. the abstract part of his pieces is what i think make them so interesting.
