This is one of James Abbott McNeill Whistler paintings. Called Nocturne in black and gold, the rag shop.
its very similar to the nocturne in black and gold, the falling rocket, at first glance you really have no clear idea as to what you are looking at. it makes you have to look really closely at the picture to see the image. the way he paints is very interesting to me because he shows just enough so the viewer has to think about if what they think they are looking at is really what they are looking at. in this painting the "Rag Shop" i can see that its some sort of store with stuff in the window. the abstract part of his pieces is what i think make them so interesting.

I think the Nocturne, Falling Rocket holds more interest for me. It is the splashes of gold that seem to make it sparkle. This one feels very flat with no contrasting colors to make it come alive.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am walking through the foggy streets of London. Why London? Because I always feel that it's the one place that is foggy a lot of the time. I can feel the mist hitting my face, as I try to cover myself as I'm walking toward this shop. My eyes squinting, trying to make sure I'm headed in the right direction. It's quiet, maybe a few cars passing by, but practically no one out because of the dreary nature of the night.
ReplyDeleteSam you should be a writer. I could picture myself there, and feel exactly what you were saying.
ReplyDeleteI like the reflection on the street it give it the look of a water running down the street, like its been raining for a while.
